The Year in MY REAR VIEW

Whatever 2017 has been to you, as it ends, it’s a good idea to take stock and give thanks. In spite of any disappointments, you’ve made it to year’s end.
I have a bad habit of always focusing on my mirrors when driving. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to slam on my brakes because I didn’t see the driver in front slow down (but my wife probably can ;)). Focusing on the past will do that to you, it’ll throw you off course. You will lose sight of the promise just beyond the horizon. You won’t see the opportunity right in front of you. The goal seems constantly out of reach.
So what if you didn’t reach your resolutions? What if you didn’t lose the weight ? You didn’t pass the exam? Your plans failed woefully? If you are always looking behind, you will keep Egypt in your sights, detract, debilitate and wear you down. A better driver would spend most of the drive looking in front, that’s where the destination, the dream, the promise is.
So the plan is to spend more time looking through the windshield’s front view and much less at the mirrors’ rear view. This is a-not-so-well- veiled invitation to do the same. We can’t do anything about the past, but we should affect the present to influence our future.
Something else about looking forward with Hope, we’ll find a loving Father that wants to restore. There is so much more God wants to do with us if we can only shake off the past failures, disappointments and rejections . He wants us to look to Him, yes it gets weary this side of eternity but as we look to Him, the fatigue and exhaustion fall off. Goodbye 2017….it’s been nice knowing you.
But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
